FAQ

  • Do you provide personal assistance for disabled guests?

We cannot personally provide such a service, however there are local agencies who can help. As the house is large, many guests opt to bring personal assistants with them on holiday.

  • Is it possible to arrange for a maid service?

Additional cleaning services can be provided at an extra cost if requested at the time of booking. A fortnight’s stay would automatically include a clean and bed change within the cost. Stays of less than fortnight and requiring a linen change due to change of visitors will incur an additional laundry charge.

  • Where is the nearest hospital?

Deal and Dover Hospitals have a minor A&E department operating a walk in service. Major A&E units are located at the QEQM at Margate and Canterbury. Local doctors surgeries are very accommodating to visitors in the first instance.

  • Why do I have to pay a security/damages deposit?

We take pride in offering a high quality accommodation and want your stay to be as good as it can be. We will only retain a damages deposit in the event of significant and avoidable damage to the property and/or its contents. We fully appreciate that accidents do happen and encourage you to let us know as soon as possible of minor problems such as a smashed glass without fear of losing any money. We will be handing over to you the keys to our house with furniture and fittings, trusting you to behave responsibly. In return we ask for a security deposit that we will treat with similar responsibility and refund as appropriate.

  • Is the swimming safe from Deal beach?

Deal has a gently sloping pebble beach although tide movements often cause pebbles to pile up causing the odd big drop as you head into the water. Currents can be very strong and children must be supervised especially when the tide is going out. We would not recommend the use of inflatables unless they are tethered to the breakwater first. There is no reason why you shouldn’t enjoy a wonderful seaside holiday with plenty of swimming with children of all ages assuming normal and sensible precautions are taken.

  • Is the beach accessible?

Approximately 50yards from the house is a ramp down to the beach. It is not ideal for wheelchair users due to its steepness (with enough pushing power it can be done) but may help the mobility impaired. Deal is a pebble beach however, so movement on the beach would be impossible in a wheelchair. Wheelchair users are not excluded from enjoying the beach front, as they can sit on the promenade or decking which is a matter of feet away or enjoy the promenade and pier. There is a charity based in Margate called Beach Within Reach who hire ‘beach buggies’ throughout Thanet and for events where wheelchair access is not easy such as the Quex Park firework display.

  • Do you allow smoking in the property?

Please do not smoke within the property. This is unfair on other guests. If we believe people have been smoking indoors we may need to retain some of your security deposit for additional cleaning.

  • Do you provide beach towels?

Currently this is not something we can offer. We do supply all bed linen, a towel bundle per visitor, tea towels and bath mats.

  • Can we come and see Seastar before booking?

We welcome you to ask as many questions as needed prior to booking and if it is practicable for you, please do contact us and ask to arrange a visit without obligation to book if we don’t quite meet your needs. We fully appreciate how important it is that the smallest of details are right in order for your holiday to be successful.

  • Do you welcome pets?

Deal is a dog walkers dream with long stretches of safe promenade and plenty of off lead walking opportunities. We welcome up to two well behaved dogs at a small additional charge to compensate for the additional cleaning. However, we must ask that dogs are not encouraged onto the beds or sofa please. Whilst the majority of dog owners are responsible, please may we remind you to pick up any dog dirt from the garden and whilst out on walks. Dogs are sadly banned from the beach (but not the promenade) during the Summer months but we have found if you head for the quieter areas north of Sandown or to Walmer or Sandwich Bay, this is not a problem. Dogs can be added to the booking on the Booking Form.

  • How can I make a booking?

In the first instance, please complete the contact form with your requirements and we will respond promptly by telephone or email verifying availability and prices. If you decide to book at this point, we will provisionally hold your dates and forward you a Booking Form on which you can select any extra requirements you may wish to add to your booking and return with a deposit. We also include the Accessibility Statement and Terms & Conditions for your information. Once the Booking Form and deposit are received, we will confirm your holiday dates. Prior to your holiday we will send you a reminder email regarding the final balance and once paid, we will then forward you directions and a copy of the Welcome Pack so you can begin planning your break.

  • Can you recommend a travel insurance company?

We cannot specifically recommend any particular companies but we are aware of a number of specialist insurers who cater for disabled travellers. In no particular order these are Fish Insurance, Chartwell Insurance, Free Spirit and Able 2 Travel. If you can add to this list, please do let us know.

  • What is the postcode for Seastar?

    The postcode is CT14 6NT.
